Since the middle ages death is personified as a skeleton, the grim reaper. The dance of death was illustrated by various artists, like Hans Holbein or Alfred Rethel. It was always the idea , that the grim reaper takes lives during war, revolution and plagues like cholera and pest. Or these days the corona pandemic.
